Sheona Shackleton

Honorary Professor

Expertise: Adaptation, ecosystem services, rural livelihoods, equity, landscapes

Prof Sheona Shackleton holds two Honorary Professorships, one with the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI) at the University of Cape Town (where she was former Deputy Director) and one with the Department of Environmental Science at Rhodes University, both in South Africa. Sheona has worked at the interface between rural development, livelihoods, natural resource use and management, ecosystem services, landscape resilience and climate change adaptation over the past 40 plus years. Most of her research has been inter- and transdisciplinary, and thus highly engaged and action-orientated. Recent work has explored what is needed for successful transdisciplinary research that is equitable, fair and effective in addressing global sustainability challenges. She has extensive project management experience, especially in team contexts, has published widely, and is well connected internationally.
