A new Doctoral Training Academy, the first of its kind in South Africa, will provide a 1-year foundational coursework training for a PhD, followed by a 3-year PhD research programme, with additional skills development tailored to students’ research and career needs as they move from ideation, through research and writing, to scoping their post-PhD career. Graduates from the PhD programme can enter professional work in the climate and green economy sector, continue into a research career as a postdoctoral researcher at a university or enter the commercial and public R&I sectors.
