Papa Fall

AFRIVERSE Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Papa Fall is a climate scientist specializing in the study of climate-health interactions, particularly vector-borne diseases such as malaria. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher on the AFRIVERSE project, under the supervision of Prof. Mark New (University of Cape Town), where he is studying indoor heat-stress and heat-illness in low-income homes in South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Kenya.

In April 2025, he obtained a doctorate in applied physics, specializing in atmospheric and climate sciences, at the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis (UGB, Senegal), under the supervision of Prof. Abdoulaye Deme and Dr. Ibrahima Diouf. His thesis focused on the impact of climate change on malaria in Senegal and West Africa through observation and modeling. He has published several scientific articles, resulting from his doctoral research and interdisciplinary collaborations.

His work has earned him several distinctions, including awards for oral and poster presentations and an award in the national competition My thesis in 180 seconds (MT180s), which brought together all public universities in Senegal. In 2024, he was also nominated and took part in the 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting (Germany), alongside more than 30 Nobel Prize winners in Physics.

His research focuses on the health impacts of climate change and draws on an interdisciplinary approach, combining modeling, data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Passionate about popularizing science, he also leads seminars and conferences to raise awareness and disseminate research findings.
