Chipo Mungenge

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Chipo is a postdoctoral research fellow in the People in Nature and Climate Lab, where she is currently evaluating Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) effectiveness in South African freshwater ecosystems in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). Her work gives scientific evidence to inform ecosystem-based strategies for climate resilience. She is also contributing to a regional project with REDAA that focuses on scaling up locally led ecological restoration initiatives in informal settlements in Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

An interdisciplinary freshwater ecologist, Chipo brings extensive research experience across freshwater ecosystems in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Her expertise encompasses environmental monitoring and assessment, biodiversity conservation, nature-based solutions, and the science-policy interface. She earned her PhD in Aquatic Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation from Rhodes University and is committed to translating scientific research insights into policies and practices that support sustainable, community-driven adaptation to climate change.
