Tesfaye is a professional natural scientist with expertise in water resources science and earth science, currently working on a research project titled "A review on the state of knowledge of the impacts of climate change on groundwater in South Africa." The project is funded through the SAF-ADAPT project at the African Climate Development Initiative, based at the University of Cape Town, and involves reviewing literature, writing the review, and creating maps of the researched areas. Before joining ACDI, Tesfaye served as a lecturer at the Hydrology Department of the University of Zululand. During this time, he played a pivotal role in various committees within the Faculty of Science, Agriculture, and Engineering, including the Safety, Health, and Environment Committee, the Faculty Library Committee, and the Faculty Academic Board. Tesfaye's teaching expertise encompassed water resource management, subsurface hydrology, and soil hydrology, and he also served as a part-time lecturer at the University of the Western Cape, delivering knowledge on groundwater processes from 2017 to 2020. He has over 18 years of professional experience in water resource projects and collaboration with prestigious organizations like the government, UNICEF, and the World Bank. These experiences have refined my project management skills and analytical abilities. Tesfaye has a PhD in Environmental and Water Science from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, in 2022 with the thesis title GIS and remote sensing-based integrated modeling of climate and land use change impacts on groundwater quality: Cape Flats Aquifer, South Africa. He is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, a reviewer for the international journal Earth Sciences (EARTH), and a member of the editorial board of Environmental Science and Pollution Research.
