ASCEND Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Takudzwa Charisse Taruza is an early career researcher and professional with expertise in GIS spatial analysis and mapping, informal settlement upgrading, disaster risk reduction, and climate change adaptation. Takudzwa is the current Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the BAOBAB synthesis team working on Building Climate Resilient Education Systems.

With a background in Urban and Regional Planning, Takudzwa has worked across academic, consulting, and development sectors, contributing to climate-resilient planning strategies, inclusive human settlement frameworks, and disaster risk reduction initiatives. Their work on sustainable community development is grounded in spatial analysis, participatory planning, and policy-oriented research.

As part of the BAOBAB initiative, Takudzwa’s current work investigates the intersections of climate change and education infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries. This includes synthesising literature, geospatial and policy research to help governments identify schools most vulnerable to climate risks and support the realisation of climate-resilient and inclusive learning environments.
