Semou Diouf

AFRIVERSE Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Semou Diouf is a climate scientist with expertise in climate extremes, climate modelling, climate change attribution, and climate data science. His research focuses on developing innovative methods, tools, and datasets to improve the understanding of climate variability and change and their impacts on society, particularly climate-related health risks across Africa. He is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the climate team of the AFRIVERSE project at the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI). In this role, he develops climate attribution datasets and contributes to the development of a climate analysis platform that supports climate–health attribution research. As part of the project, he works closely with multidisciplinary teams investigating the health impacts of climate change, contributing to AFRIVERSE's mission of strengthening African research capacity and advancing digital tools for climate–health impact attribution.

Semou holds a PhD in Applied Physics, specializing in Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, from Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal (2025). His doctoral research investigated the occurrence and drivers of heatwaves in Senegal, with a particular focus on the interactions between extreme heat, desert dust, and urban air pollution, and their implications for human health.
