Fred Sato
Fred is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Climate Risk Lab at ACDI. An expert in climate change literacy assessment, his research explores how climate knowledge shapes responses to climate change and pro-environmental actions. Fred is leading research on climate change and heritage, exploring adaptation options linked to climate change awareness and perception of its impacts on UNESCO World Heritage Sites across southern Africa. His interdisciplinary interests extend to the role of climate change knowledge in peacebuilding, migration, and, recently, heritage preservation. Apart from a professional background in teaching in Malawian and Japanese secondary and high schools, he has worked on teacher building capacity with UNESCO-IICBA and World Vision Malawi and consulted on climate change research projects concerning low-carbon strategies (urban design, zoning, nature-based solutions, and policies), NetZero stakeholder engagement, climate policy, and action-oriented pedagogies for education for sustainable development at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS).
