Adelina Mensah

Dr. Adelina Mensah is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS), University of Ghana (UG). She also led in the development of the MPhil. Sustainability Science programme at the institute. Dr. Mensah has an interdisciplinary background in environmental sciences, with a focus on ecosystems and the human dimensions that impact on its management and sustainability. She lectured at the Department of Marine and Fisheries Sciences for 10 years before transferring to IESS, where her research and teaching activities on the biophysical aspects of different ecosystems include the inter-linkages with diverse drivers of resource use. Her current areas of interest are research and innovation in science and technology for promoting sustainable futures.

Dr. Mensah has worked extensively with a number of national and international agencies on a range of climate change and environment related projects that have involved transdisciplinary approaches with various sectors and stakeholders. Many of these projects have assessed the roles of socio-economic parameters in national climate change adaptation, mitigation and environmental management for identifying sustainable pathways of development.  She has co-facilitated the development of a number of key national policies, including the National Climate Change Policy (NCCP) Framework, the NCCP and the NCCP Implementation Plan (2015-2020), and the National Infrastructure Plan, and currently, the National Biodiversity Policy (NBP), the Implementation Plan of the NBP, the Environmental Management Plan for the Oil and Gas Industry, and the draft Policy for One Health.
