Timothy Downing
Dr. Downing is a climate resilience expert with a strong background in environmental sciences, natural resource management, and specialized training in GIS and remote sensing. Currently a Research Fellow at the University of Nairobi’s Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation, he is advancing Nature-based Solutions in Africa's savanna regions and mentoring future climate scientists. His research has centered on the impacts of climate change and fire in Kenya’s alpine ecosystems, making significant contributions to understanding temperature trends, ecosystem responses, and elevation-dependent warming on Mount Kenya. With over six years of experience in the U.S. Forest Service as a GIS Specialist and Landscape Ecologist, he has led large-scale landscape restoration and post-fire assessments. His scholarly work is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he actively engages in international climate forums, underscoring his scientific credibility and practical impact in the climate change space.
