Louise du Toit

Louise is a postdoctoral research fellow with the ACDI, UCT Law Faculty and Griffith Criminology Institute. Her postdoctoral research focuses on climate change mitigation and insurance. The aim of her research is to identify and understand recent instances internationally of insurance businesses and others in the insurance system, such as regulators and industry associations, engaging in actions that mitigate climate change as well as the conditions which enable (and disable) those actions.  

Louise completed her PhD (Public Law) at UCT, which focused on the promotion of renewable energy in South Africa through the use of market-based instruments. She also holds BA, LLB and LLM (Environmental Law) degrees. She is the assistant editor of Environmental Law in South Africa and an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
