Professor Athayde is the leader for the Amazon Dams Network (University of Florida), Visiting Professor at Federal University of Tocantins and guest expert and reviewer for the Intergovernmental Platform Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
In this short video interview for the African Climate & Development Initiative Professor Athayde explains the role of her research in relation to the role of indigenous peoples and traditional ecological knowledge on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for enhanced social-environmental governance across the globe. Drawing on case-studies from Brazil, United States, New Zealand, and Nigeria she will facilitate inter- and trans-disciplinary thinking and dialogue across academic disciplinary fields and indigenous knowledge systems.
