The Africa Climate Collaborative at UCT brings together leading Masters programmes to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to address climate change and sustainable development challenges from an African perspective.
The programme emphasises interdisciplinary learning, innovation and entrepreneurship, preparing graduates to contribute to a just and climate-resilient future while creating opportunities across Africa.
Students can enrol through one of the following participating Earth Systems Governance Masters Programmes:
- Master by Coursework in Climate Change and Sustainable Development (African Climate & Development Initiative/Environmental and Geographical Sciences)
- MPhil in Environmental Humanities: Earth Systems Governance (Environmental Humanities South)
- MPhil in Energy Studies (Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment)
- Master by Coursework specialising in Applied Ocean Sciences (MARiS Institute)
- Master of Public Health specialising in Environmental Health (School of Public Health)
While these are our Master programme partners, students can take electives from any UCT department.
Funding Through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The Africa Climate Collaborative at UCT is collaborating with the UCT Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program to create additional funding opportunities for students pursuing Collaborative-supported Masters by coursework programmes and, who will focus on climate and sustainability-related concerns for their dissertation.
A select number of students admitted to an Africa Climate Collaborative-supported Master’s programme may be eligible for funding through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. To be considered, applicants must meet the UCT Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program’s eligibility criteria and be accepted into an eligible Collaborative-supported Master’s programme.
