Vacancy: Research Portfolio Manager
Applications are invited for the post of Research Portfolio Manager, for the African Climate and Development Initiative (ACDI).
The ACDI is a strategic initiative at UCT that coordinates and enhances research and teaching on climate and development across departments and faculties. The purpose of the Research Portfolio Manager is to assist the Director in strategically growing the research output of ACDI over the next five years by coordinating the submission of research proposals and the research deliverables. This is a full time, fixed term positon for three years with extension for a further two years subject to the availability of funds.
Master’s degree in related field – climate, environment, social or development studies, economics or similar.
5 or more years of work experience in a research and/or applied research setting with significant experience in the climate change and development sector.
Experience in proposal writing, project management and team coordination.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Advantageous experience includes:
Relationship management between internal and external stakeholders
Experience of inter and transdisciplinary research proposal writing and management
Success in writing and winning large, complex, multi-year research proposals.
Contribute to the development of the overarching ACDI strategy, with specific reference to the research portfolio.
Coordinate research portfolio’s programme of work with that of other ACDI portfolios.
Horizon scanning for funding opportunities.
Lead, coordinate and contribute to the submission of research proposals.
Engage with the Donor Alumni Development Department at UCT to drive donor funding of ACDI research.
Coordinate research and related activities with UCT Department/Research Units (for example African Centre for Cities, Energy Research Centre, Climate System Analysis Group, Environmental Humanities)
Monitor research project deliverables in consultation with project leaders
Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders
Act as line manager for junior portfolio staff
Ensure that portfolio-related resources (personnel, financial and equipment) are built and maintain.
