University of Cape Town - University of East Anglia Newton PhD partnership on Understanding the Climate System and Coping with Climate Change
The University of East Anglia (UEA) and the University of Cape Town are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership scheme supporting PhD students conducting research in the areas of ‘improving understanding of the climate system – including the 'ocean and atmosphere’ and ‘developing capacity to cope with climate change’. The scheme offers students the opportunity to undertake a funded 3-month placement at the partner university to complete research as part of their PhD.
This series of annual PhD research exchange visits is offered from 2016 to 2019 between UCT and UEA. For each of these three years the scheme will sponsor 3 or 4 PhD students from both UEA and UCT to spend a short period of their study at the partner institution, conducting research that will promote future South African well-being interest as part of their PhD project, and undertaking training in career-enhancing multi-disciplinary scientific skills.
We are now welcoming applications from UCT registered students for 3-month placements at UEA to begin during the course of 2018. The deadline for application is 15 October 2017.
Criteria and Eligibility.
• Students should be working on topics within the broad areas of climate change described above.
• The visit should add specific value to the PhD student's research skills and experience (e.g. access to equipment and laboratories; attendance of a short course; supervision/advice by an expert not available at home institution)
• The visit should have the potential for either building on existing, or creating new, supervisor links.
