Seminar on the OECD "Investing in Climate, Investing in Growth" Report
What are the growth and structural implications of the transition to a low-emission and climate-resilient economy? How can governments create conditions to drive such a transition, and how can they ensure that climate-friendly growth policies provide a major boost to short-term growth while increasing longer-term resilience? What development pathways will get us to the Paris Agreement outcomes? How do investment flows, in particular, investment in infrastructure, need to change to get us there?
These are some of the questions to be discussed at a seminar co-organised by the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Energy Research Centre of the University of Cape Town, taking place in Cape Town on 24 July 2017, in the context of the OECD South Africa week.
The aim of the seminar is to present the recently published flagship OECD report Investing in Climate, Investing in Growth , and to discuss its key findings and their relevance for the economic situation and policy context of South Africa. The event seeks to bring together representatives from academia, industry, civil society and Parliament.
The seminar will be introduced by Professor Harald Winkler, Director at the Energy Research Centre, University of Cape Town. Dr Simon Buckle who is Head of the Climate, Biodiversity and Water Division, OECD Environment Directorate, will present key findings of the Investing in Climate, Investing in Growth report, followed by Q&A.
We are pleased to invite you to this event, which will be preceded by drinks from 16:30 onwards.
